Hello, my name is Conrad Zero, and I’m a music-o-holic. I have a soundtrack for most of my day. Even when I’m not writing or recording music, I listen to it – at home, in the car, and at work. I listen to music when I mow the lawn, when I go snowboarding, and even when I write dark fiction stories. I actually built a sound system into the bathroom so I could listen to music when I’m in the shower. With just a portion of my CD collection burned to MP3 and uploaded to Google Play, I have over 10,000 songs available on any computer or my smartphone.
Safe to say that music is an important part of my life.
Over time, I’ve turned away from terrestrial radio stations. This hasn’t really impacted my local music fix, which I still get from attending live music shows in Minneapolis. I know many local musicians. I’m on plenty of lists, and I and keep an ear on the local music scene. So I’m fairly savvy with recent releases in the Minneapolis area. My current local faves are Phantom Tails, H3K, and Venus de Mars and All The Pretty Horses.
But moving outside local music, I find myself falling back to my own playlists of the same artists over and over again. Nine Inch Nails. Tool. Nirvana. Garbage. Marillion. Pink Floyd. Delerium. Marilyn Manson. Gary Numan. MORE Nine Inch Nails… And my living room AV system has been locked on Slacker Radio’s Dubstep channel since last fall. I have tons of music, and I never get sick of any of it. But I also have reduced my exposure to new music. I didn’t realize just how out of touch I was until last week.
I noticed that one of my favorite bands, Rush, have a new album called Clockwork Angels that just came out a few days ago. And Gary Numan released Dead Son Rising last December! And Lacuna Coil released Dark Adrenaline last January! All this cool music coming out and I had no idea until I started trolling through Amazon’s new music releases.
This will not do.
I want to expand my music portfolio before the apocalypse this December. I’ll still crank The Downward Spiral and Antichrist Superstar, but I’m going to be more aware of new music, and give my life soundtrack a reboot. As I come across cool albums and artists I’ll be sure to post them over on my google+ page, so friend me up. And let me know if there’s any more cool music for the Apocalypse that I should be aware of.
